Thursday Thirteen #1

Thirteen Things My Fellow Bloggers Should Know About Jana:
1. I am 4'11" tall, and look like I'm 13.  Don't worry, I'm really 25! I promise!
2. I work 2 jobs, one in the Accounts Payable department of a small manufacturing company, one as a tax preparer and instructor.
3. I'm currently on a bit of a self-discovery kick.  I've been so busy pleasing others most of my life, that the real person has been buried.  I'm currently seeking to dig her up, one self-discovery at a time.
4. At the moment I'm getting in touch with my inner artist and also learning to crochet.
5. I'm a Christian.  I'm not smug and pridefull about it, but I am not ashamed either.  It's who I am. You can't really know me without knowing that.
6. I have one roomate, and two cats - Luka is the roomate's, Tiger (aka Psychokitty) is mine.
7. I am ALL about diversity, intercultural stuff, nature, and TRAVEL! They are my heartbeat. I want to travel all around the world before I die.
8. In spite of all of my antisocial tendencies, deep inside I am a DEFINTE people person.
9. I am 200% geek! I love computer and anything related to them! I think without net access I'd wither away and die!
10. I love Paint Shop Pro! I'm SOOOO addicted! I plan on re-designing my blog format soon, after I learn more html and css.
11. I'm currently working on learning HTML and so I made myself a website to practice on.  You can see it here.
12. My outer self is impossibly plain.  My innerself is insanely exotic.  I'm working on ways to let my outer self reflect my inner self, but so far it's been a flop.
13. I'm currently doing everything possible to pay off my debts so I can start living my dreams.

Wednesday Memes

From: Question of the Day

If you were a migrating bird, where would you fly to for the winter?
I would migrate to Georgia most likely... Maybe Florida or Hawaii.  I'd love to go to the Middle East or India, but I think my wings would get tired! LOL

From:
Are you more...

01) A Boxing Day/Week (post-Christmas) shopper or "I'm totally broke and why would I keep shopping after Christmas anyway"?   I love shopping any time of the year!!!! LOL

02) Someone who thinks the human culture far in the future will be much like now or someone who thinks human culture far in the future will be very different from now? I think it will be much different as the amount of technology we have increases, I think we will rely on it more for our interaction with others, and rely less on face-to-face contact.

03) A digger for truth or one who waits for truth to be brought to you? Definately a digger for truth.  I always have to know the "how" and the "why" of things.

04) A believer that biology explains most human behavior or a believer that higher mental processes dictate most human behavior? I believe that our lives and our destinies are defined by our choices.

05) Afraid of nuclear war happening or afraid of a mega-tsunami hitting shore near you? Nuclear war... I'm REALLY far from an ocean LOL

06) One who thinks that having different adulthood and drinking ages is sensible or one who thinks that having different adulthood and drinking ages is stupid?

07) One who thinks that having different adulthood and sexual consent ages is sensible or one who thinks that having different adulthood and sexual consent ages is stupid? I think it's illogical to say that a 14 year old is old enough to have sex in Canada, but not old enough to get a job at Burger King, quit school without parental consent,... !

08) A gear in the system or a monkey wrench in the system? I hate systems!

09) A stammering idiot when around a gorgeous specimen of whatever gender you're attracted to or the same around them as when you're around plain people? A stammering idiot.  Found that out when the hottest guy on the face of the earth came into my job once.

10) One who feels stinged when someone you don't know is critical of you or one who honestly doesn't care when someone you don't know is critical of you? What gives strangers the right to think they can criticize me?! *Offended at the very thought*

10 New Year Resolutions

I saw this on Ten on Tuesday and thought it might be good.  But instead of yearly resolutions, I thought I'd try daily ones.

We learned an important principal one day at church: Work done in small increments, if done consistently, has a cumulative effect.

So when you see this list, know that I may only do these things for literally 1 minute a day, but it's a start, because these are things I want to make a permanent part of my life.  And you as my blogging friends are going to keep me accountable, since I'll be posting these on the profile section of my blog (probably starting tomorrow, depending on how busy we are at work.)  Here they are!

Each day I want to:

1. Spend time in prayer
2. Read my Bible
3. Exercise
4. Do something creative
5. Learn something new
6. Work on Memorizing a Scripture
7. Improve something at my job.
8. Clean 1 surface in my home.
9. Contact 1 friend/relative
10. Do something fun!

Keepin' It Real?

I stopped to think earlier today about the content of my blog recently... and noticed it felt... empty.  Yes, it has memes and reviews of other blogs, and funny stories.

But something seemed to be missing, and eventually I figured out what it was.

Me.

I'm missing in my blog.  I've gotten so caught up in making new blog friends, and in having lots of comments on my board and lots of replies to my posts, that I've almost been afraid to put the "real" Jana on the blog.  If I post certain things, if I post during my low moments, I worry that even my friends won't want to read it.  I know it's not true, but I fear it anyway.

So, on my New Years Resolution list, (which I'll post later) my first one will be to "Keep it real."  Kinda like in the law... "The Jana, the WHOLE Jana, and nothing but the Jana"

From: Question of the Day

"What was your New Year's resolution this year? Did you keep it?"
I looked in my blog and the only resolution I could find was just that I wanted to reorganize my life.  Did I keep it?  In a lot of ways I did.  My home has stayed consistently cleaner (tho still not clean), I've baked and freezed food to bring to work instead of TV dinners, and still have food left in the freezer.  I have made and stuck to a budget, at least better than I did last year.  My spiritual and exercise goals totally flopped though. *shrug*  There's always next year though!

From: In Other Words

This Weeks Quote: "Politics is made up largely of irrelevancies.

-- Dalton Camp "

What do I think about that?  SO TRUE!!!!! Politicians choose a small topic to argue about, one that really pushes people's buttons, but also one that really has no impact on their policies in general.  They campaign on that one topic, in the hopes that no one will look deeper to find out what their policies are on the things that REALLY matter.

From: Musing on Movies

Their question: "Do you like animated films? Do you make it a point to see them for yourself, or do you only go for the kids? What are your favorite animated films? Which ones do you not like at all? Who are your favorite animated heroes, villains, damsels (in distress or otherwise), and sidekicks?"

My answer: I like animated films quite a bit, and since i have no children, obviously I watch them for myself LOL  Animated films are generally clean (stuff I don't have to be ashamed that I watched) and leave you feeling happy.  My favorites are Lilo & Stitch, Aladdin, & Monsters Inc. I absolutely hated Anastacia (sp?) and the Hunchback, as they were WAY too dark to be marketted to children, IMHO!
My favorite characters?  Hero: Aladin  Villan: Cruella DeVil  Damsel: Boo from Monsters Inc, Lilo  Sidekick: Stitch (Lilo & Stitch),  Puss-n-boots from Shrek (the accent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

From: Tuesdays Tales

1. What was the best thing to happen in 2005?
Moving here and coming to a new church are definately the best things to happen to me this year.  I've learned so much, grown so much, and had so many new opportunities.

2. What was the worst thing to happen in 2005?
My grandpa died.

3. What is your biggest regret of the year?
I wish I hadn't burned so many bridges when I moved, because I really hurt some people.

4. If you could do anything over again what would it be?
Nothing.  Everything in my past, good and bad, have made me who I am today.

5. What do you see for the rest of the year?
*peering into crystal ball*  Leftovers.  Lots and lots of leftovers.  LOL

From: Tuesday is Chooseday

    Would you rather:
  1. hear the constant sound of bells ringing in the background OR misunderstand half of everything said to you?  The bells would drive me NUTS!
  2. win a prize that's paid in smaller, monthly increments OR one big, lump sum?  I'd just waste the money if it was in one sum!
  3. choke on a piece of shrimp and have somebody perform the heimlich maneuver on you to save you OR be pushed out of the way of an oncoming bus?  Shrimp & Choking are both gross!
  4. wake up and find all your underwear is too tight OR find all your shoes missing?

Tis the Day After Christmas

Well, I did officially make it through Christmas!!  It started out bad (extra people coming, cats being nuts, missing , and to top it all off, the washer started running while I was in the shower, so the water got cold WAY before the shower was done)

Went in my room, cried, listened to Christmas songs, felt better, and moved on.

We had a total of 14 people around, and we just ate and played board games.  It was pretty fun actually.

James came over, which was kinda neat.  His brothers had went to watch Chronicles of Narnia, so he stayed and hung out with us for about 4 hours.  (No, we're not dating again.  Just friends!)

Learned to crochet the "Granny Square" (my roomate taught me that!) My roomate also got me a BUNCH of crochet supplies, and knitting needles.  The BEST part of the gift was that it came with LESSONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm really excited.

My roomates Bro-in-law delivered the Secret Santa gifts, and it was neat cause there was a guy at the house who knew the bro-in-law from church.  God works in interesting ways, eh?

Had Christmas with mom today, watched movies and worked 2 jigsaw puzzles.  Ate leftovers from her job, which were REALLY good surprisingly.

Now, I'm looking forward to one of the best parts of the holiday season:

LEFTOVER CHEESEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tales of a Last-Minute Christmas Shopper

Well, I am now OFFICIALLY done with my Christmas shopping! YEAH!!!!!!

I bravely embarked on my shopping trek today, even stopping at THE MALL! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I went to the mall.  And, because I've been SO good, and saved up my money, and been SO thrifty, and made SO much progress paying off bills... I decided to spend my Christmas bonus from job #1 on myself.

What did I get?  Well......

From Elder Beerman:
1 Burgandy Sweater
1 Black zip-up Sweater
Total Spent: $19.02   (Can you believe that??!!! I love holiday sales!)

From The Icing:
1 cute black hat (which I IMMEDIATELY put on due to terrible hair from trying on clothes hahaha)
Total Spent: $8

From Walden Books:
2 Books
Total Spent: $6 (Because of a Buy 4 - Get 1 Free deal... but I bought the other 3 books for others)

From K-Mart:
1 Book
1 Piece of Pizza
1 Order of Cheese Bread
1 Diet Coke
Total Spent: $11

Then, I knew of a family in need, and did some Secret Santa shopping.  Its a family with mom, teenage daughter, 10 year old son. I bought them each a bit of stuff, but my favorites were:
1 Card Game & Trick Kit
1 Flying Model Kit & Book
1 Electonics Kit (the one I was gonna get for my roomate LOL)

I really did enjoy shopping for them, and it did a number on my holiday depression!  I'm feeling much better, although my arms, shoulders, and neck all hurt like heck from carrying all that junk around the mall!!!! LOL

And now, for the question you've all been waiting for:  What did I get for the roomate?

I got her a CSI Miami Forensic Jigsaw Puzzle!! And just for fun I got her a "Grow a Vacation" kit from the dollar store LOL

Maybe not the most conventional gifts in the world but I know she'll like them, so that's what matters right?

In other interesting news:

I saw a dwarf at the mall, and of course she was shorter than me.  I'm not sure how I feel about that. *pondering*

Traffic at the mall was INSANE! It took me 30-45 minutes to get out of the parking lot.  Good thing I had a book on tape with me to help keep my sanity!

Two men hit on me.  Both commented on my hair (it was down for once)... both were old enough to be my dad.  *rolling eyes*  One might not have really been hiting on me, he might have just been being nice.  The other was DEFINATELY hitting on me, and he was either mentally ill, mentally handicapped, or both.  *shudder*  I was chatting about it to the cashier at K-mart and she said several had hit on her today too.  *shrug*  Guess it's something in the air?
