The Covenant - Book Review

I just finished reading "The Covenant," by Beverly Lewis for a booklist I'm on.  (Well, okay, THEY finished it 20 days ago, and I'm just running a little late.)  I was not planning to really like it, as a matter of fact I put it off as long as possible.

This book surprised me.  I actually DID like it... probably more than anything because it included real-life things like conflicts within the family, unplanned pregnancy, abortion, deceipt, etc.

I like the way that you learn about Amish culture (good and bad) from a bit of an insiders perspective.  I also like the fact that the loves in the book are not at ALL gushy.  I get so annoyed with gushing... *sigh*

I was not at ALL happy with the ending.  I mean, I know it's the first in a series of books, but COME ON you gotta give me SOME amount of closure!!!!!   But no, she didn't, and I'm dying of suspense... I plan to stop at the library tonight and get the next book in the series. :o)

I loved that series. I got them all from my church library, so I didn't have to wait, but I know what you mean about suspense. I started reading David Eddings' Belgariad while he was still writing it, and having to wait for the next book to be released was torture!

I know, the suspense drives me nuts! But, it only bugs me cause I'm too lazy to go to the library and get the next one, I almost never read books right after they come out. :) I'm always WAY behind the times lol

I finally got the Betrayal last night, but I'm just a few pages away from the end of another book I'm reading, so I'm gonna finish that one tonight and start the Betrayal tomorrow. :)

I tend to like most of Beverly Lewis's books...except when it is a series and I have to wait sooooo long before the next book comes out. :-)

But that frustrates me about many authors, not just her. I mean, come on...don't they realize I am just hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for the conclusions??? LOL
